Holiday Gift Ideas

Struggling with your holiday gift list? Here are a few of our favorite gift ideas:

• Flavored Cooking Oils – Looking for a way to use the rest of your garden herbs before winter sets in? Repurpose or purchase recycled glass bottles and flavor organic olive oil with rosemary, thyme or oregano. Add a piece of ribbon and you have a beautiful and tasty stocking stuffer or hostess gift!
• Mini Christmas Tree – Do you know someone that loves the holidays but can’t have a Christmas tree due to illness or apartment regulations? Sent them a miniature, planted Christmas tree to brighten up their home and bring in the holiday spirit! Check out organicbouqet.com for sustainably grown flowers and plants.
• Organic Beauty & Bath Products – Pamper your loved ones with all natural lotion, perfume, and bath products by wholearthbeauty.com.
• Local Wine – A bottle of wine from a local winery is the perfect hostess gift to have on hand for those last minute holiday gatherings. Shopping locally supports area businesses and reduces carbon emissions produced during product shipment.

For simple and wallet friendly gift wrap, wrap your gift with the brown paper from a grocery bag and finish it off with a ribbon and sprig of evergreen from your yard!

BBQ Bug Control

Throwing a mid-summer bbq in the backyard this weekend? Follow these tips to ensure unvited pests don't ruin your event:

- Plant catnip, rosemary, marigold, and citronella plants in your yard to naturally repel mosquitos.

- Avoid wearing perfume, lotion, hair gel or any other scented products. The smell attracts biting insects.

- Use EcoSmart Insect Killer to keep the pests away (available at local garden centers). This spray kills and releps over 100 types of bugs with all natural ingredients!

- Burn beeswax citronella candles at your event. The citronella will repel insects, while the candles will help create ambiance. Check out our boutique for our favorite all-natural citronella candles: http://naturallychicevents.com/item/citronella-glass-set.

Digging Out

Now that the beauty and wonder of the area's record breaking snow storms is gone, it's time to get back to the real world… You can clear your sidewalks, take care of your car and heat your home without compromising your green values. Here are some eco-friendly tips to help with the dreaded clean-up:

Use sand to stabilize your sidewalks instead of rock salt and urea based de-icers that can pollute area waterways, damage your lawn, and destroy your garden.

To prevent ice from covering home and car windows, rub the inside of the glass with a saltwater-soaked sponge; dry with a clean cloth. You won't see it, but a residue from the salt will remain to ward off frost.

Reduce the time you idle you car before you drive it. Not only does it waste gas, it also strains your engine, cylinders and spark plugs which work best in motion, not neutral.

Open the blinds. The sun is the best heater. By opening your blinds, the sun will naturally warm up any room in your house.
